Down Home Cookin'
02:47
|
|||
I said way down home folks get down
they go round and round and round
and if the band starts getting crazy
the whole place goes right along
and you might be drunk and you might be lazy
but you can't fight that song.
CHORUS:
Down Home Cookin
So good to be
down Home Cookin
Feeling Free
Wailin on ten with my friends again
just like way back when
and those slow talking ladies
they're much alright
those Debbies, Ludeanas, and Katies
sure nuff light up the night.
CHORUS
We ran wild for so long
down rodes and avenues
now it's work and city life
trying' to pay some dues
But some times I just spinning' my wheels
and I'm thinking' how good it feels

CHORUS
Goin down to Cairo. Goodbye and a goodbye.
Goin down to Cairo. Goodbye Lisa Jane
Black them boots and make 'em shine
Goodbye and a Goodbye
Black them boots and make em shine
Goodbye Lisa Jane.
CHORUS
She was down in Cairo town
I was at the levee
Hooked my foot on a hollow stump
and out jumped Lisa Jane
CHORUS
Oh, how I love her,
it's a scandal and a shame
Oh, how I love her,
goodbye Lisa Jane
CHORUS
I ain't got time to kiss you now
Goodbye and a goodbye
I ain't got time to kiss you now
And it's goodbye Lisas Jane.
CHORUS
Took a steamboat back to Rosiclaire
Goodbye and a goodbye
Track to my friends and family
And it's goodbye Lisa Jane.

Dog & Cat
03:08
|
|
||
Early in the morning as the day is dawning
Dog's on the floor by the bed
and that cat is purring in my ear, saying
kitty needs to be fed
Chorus:
Dog & cat & cat & dog & cat &
dog & cat and dog & cat & dog & cat
Dog & cat & cat & dog & cat &
dog & cat & dog
Later in the evening me & the wife are sleeping
cat's scratching on the side of the bed
and we gotta be careful when we go to pee
not to step on the old dog's head
Chorus
friends and neighbors let's give praise & glory
to that good ole dog & cat
when they stretch and lay their paws upon you
hallelujah, you sure been blessed
chorus
(Dan Marsh, who wrote this tune, has very kindly allowed me do take a very few tiny liberties with lyrics)

Back to the Valley
02:49
|
|||
Back to the Valley
You moved up to the city
gonna find some work
you gambled all your money
and you lost your shirt
you're looking high and low all day
there ain't no work. Boy, head
CHORUS:
Back to the valley where the thick woods grow
Head on back where the Ohio flows
Back to the valley where skies got room
head on back to where the rosebuds bloom
A cottage on the river gonna feel just right
The crickets all be jamming' while the moon shines bright
You know you're home at last when Mr. Catfish bites
Yeah, head
CHORUS
Maybe life in the city kinda cramps your style
Then, brother, pack your bags and walk a country mile
When you make it to the front porch won't you sit a while
Yeah, c'mon
CHORUS

It was on beyond the fields I knew
Thick meadows and tall oaks grew
beneath a gold sun that cast its light
and made way then for summer night
Chorus:
Over yonder and round the bend
I once went there I can't say when
Some bright morning I'ma go again
Over yonder and round the bend
Beneath a Pale moon folks danced till dawn
They sang and laughed and carried on
And met the new day with a smiling face
And loved each other in that far place
Chorus
All the people there, they worked together
to build their land and lift each other
Everyone was free, free at last
good with the future, good with the past
Chorus
You can say it was all a dream
or just some trickster's lowdown scheme
But I do know what I know
And I know where I wanna go (and that's)
Chorus

Over and Again
03:53
|
|
||
Over & Again
Sometimes--I don't know why--
But it's like I could fly
off to space or someplace
shining and high
You my love give true love
we know love has healed us
love has sealed us--forever one
CHORUS:
Over & over & again
You prove love is true
Over & Over & Again
I give my love to you
Sometimes you can't say who
it is we might be
That's all right, My Delight,
Let's try and see
Your sweet kiss, nights like this
Who would believe?
It goes to show you don't know
What you might receive

Funny How It All Goes On
03:23
|
|||
Funny How It All Goes On
Ain't it funny how it all goes on
Funny How It all goes on
People sleeping in houses all night long
I'm getting up with the crack of the dawn
And the people that I meet on the street
turn me on
Ain't it funny how it all goes on
Ain't it funny how it all goes on
Funny How It all goes on
Politicians and prophets, promised lands
The Stars and bars and last stands
Folks stuck at the office too much time
on their hands
Ain't it funny how it all goes on
Some folks wish they could
fly over the rainbow
touch the moon and the stars
Me, I eat my Milky Way candy bar,
count all the stars on the wrapper,
think about where I'd like to be.
Ain't it funny how it all goes on
Funny How It all goes on
Children build stand castles on the beach
The castles fall beneath the high tide's reach
And I play on the corner, my songs
a dollar each
Ain't it funny how it all goes on
Funny how it all goes on
Funny how it all goes on

That's Just How I Am
03:34
|
|||
That's Just How I Am
Back in Chicago people would know
Soon as I opened my mouth
I come from down south, not up around there
Sometimes someone would stare
Scuse me, sir or ma'am, I'd say
But that's just how I am
Ole mom and ole dad said it was bad
I didn't do like they'd say
Boy, you blast tunes all day
They'd cry, God on high,
Act like a natural guy
Scuse me sir and ma'am, I say
But that's just how I am
It has been said I'm a strange so and so
Might get crazy, you don't never know
Guess that's true, sometimes I get in a jam
I do like I do, that's just how I am
I won't set my clock or turn on the AC
Some folks wonder what is wrong with me
That's ok--like this ole boy gives a damn
Man, say what you may, that's just how I am
Some folks here and there they give me the sneer
and hit me with some lame crack
Times when they attack, man they dish it out
and I push back, ain't no doubt
Scuse me, folks, but man, ain't no lie
That's just how I am
That's just how am
It ain't no scam
Look here now,
That's just how I am

Ohio River
03:30
|
|||
Ohio River
Like some tan swan
on you glide
A long bright train
south you ride
CHORUS:
Ohio River, so wide and slow
You flow through my dreams
wherever I go
Under a pale moon
or skies of blue
I come to your shoreline
to speak with you
CHORUS
With friends and family
I used to gather on your shore
Then one day I rambled
Now I see you no more
CHORUS

Kent McDaniel Chicago, Illinois
First band Kent ever saw was Salty Gamblin & The Mudcat Band. Spring Fest, his 5th grade year. They walked out, plugged in,
looked at everybody. Had electric guitar, bass, & drums--& Salty on acoustic & vocals. Bam, they tore into "I Saw The Light." Chills shot up & down Kent's body.
He saved up & got a Gibson Melody Maker. Played & sang ever since. Never means to stop.
